Cusco/Sacred Valley
Trekking, Andes, History & Culture
This trip takes you on a gentle hike through the stunning Sacred Valley to the ancient Inca ruins of Inti Punku.
Inti Punku, which means Sun Gate in Quechua, was the main Inca control gate and entrance to the city of Ollantaytambo. Also the site of Inca religious events, the ancient sun priests could predict the times of sowing and harvesting by observing the angle at which the sunlight shone through the gate. Inti Punku faces towards the sacred mountain of Veronica and is an outstanding lookout point over the Sacred Valley.
This is a nice beginner level hike which includes a bilingual guide and pack lunch. It begins at the traditional community of Cachicata, and from here we pass various Chulpas (enormous stones marking the burial spot of great Inca constructors) on our walk through the mountains towards Inti Punku. Here we have lunch whilst taking in the stunning views before trekking back to Ollantaytambo.
Take in the beauty and history of the Sacred Valley on this 1-day adventure.
